This programme was developed for various groups of students.
A first target is Belgian students who have been unable to find what they need in the Dutch and French programmes. Compared to the latter, the Master of Business and Technology has a clear international flavour and focuses even more on IT and Innovation. Moreover, total immersion in the English language, combined with dedicated English language teaching in our bachelor programmes, forms the ideal preparation for a career in an international context.
Secondly, we are also targeting an International audience.
Brussels is the capital of Europe and is thus an attractive environment for foreign students who aspire to a career within a European or international context. The presence of many European institutions and European headquarters of multinationals provides a stimulating environment and offers interesting career opportunities. The programme design gives students the opportunity to concentrate on topics that will be relevant to the future they envisage for themselves. The diversity in optional courses during the second year of the programme offers the possibility of personalising the curriculum, without disregard for the fundamental knowledge and skills that are expected from a business engineer educated in Belgium.
A third important target group for this programme is international students who come to study at our universities for a short period.
Every year, vast numbers of international students visit the VUB and ULB for one or more semesters, within the framework or the European Erasmus programme. One of the effects of the internationalisation of European education will be an even larger number of exchange students wanting to come to VUB and ULB. Given that many of these students have not mastered the Dutch or French language and that the number of courses taught in English at ULB and VUB is limited, it is sometimes difficult to offer them a well-adapted programme. The English variant of the master’s programme now offers a solution, as this programme is well balanced per semester and consists entirely in courses taught completely in English. This programme can now fully meet the needs of Erasmus students.
